Well, I'm not a Muzzle descendant, but I have found some Hastings/Muzzle marriages in Henry County, Tennessee. But after doing some more research today, I'm not sure I can connect them to my Hastings line. Let me explain.

My Hastings line descends from Henry C. Hastings (1727-1812) of Orange County, NC. Several of Henry's grandchildren left Orange County in the early 19th century and emigrated to Henry County, including Joseph Marion Hastings (1804-1885).

Martha B. Hastings (1865-after 1900) married Jesse Muzzall on 22 Dec. 1881 in Henry County. This Martha is apparently the daughter of John Hastings and Diana Francisco, and I can't seem to connect them to my Orange County Hastings at all.

One source on ancestry.com says Jesse Muzzall is the son of Orlando Muzzall (b. 1819 in Caswell County, NC) and Martha (or Hannah) Hastings (1835-1930), the daughter of Joseph Marion Hastings and his second wife Mary Ann D. Gregson (another transplant from NC to Henry County).

Another source shows Jesse as the son of Orlando's younger brother Joe, and Joe's wife Martha Webb. I think this is correct because the 1880 Henry County census shows Joe Muzzle, 44, and his wife Martha, 45, living with their seven children (including Jesse, 19). The names and ages match up with Joe and Martha Webb Muzzle, not Orlando and Martha Muzzle.

Joe and Martha live two doors from John and Diana Francisco Hastings.

Joe's son William married John and Diana's daughter Amanda Hastings.

Joe's brother Orlando married my relative Martha Hastings.

So two Muzzall brothers married Hastings women, but I can't prove that the Hastings women are related!

If I could connect John and Diana Francisco Hastings to my line, I'd solve that mystery. But right now, I can't. It's got me stumped, because both the Muzzalls and Hastings have strong connections to Orange County, NC as well as Henry County, TN. I can't believe that John Hastings isn't somehow connected.

This probably adds more confusion than clarity, but maybe you can help me untangle it a bit.
