How far back (i.e. back to what year) have you researched the Muxlow surname?

There was a genealogy compiled by a relative approximately 15 years ago, but it appeared quite vague in respect to the origins. Do you happen to know, for example, what nationality does Muxlow originate? That is, is Muxlow an anglicized version of a scottish or gaelic surname (since a lot of misspellings resulted from illiterate Muxlows relying on others to guess the spelling based on phonetics)? Could Muxlow be the English literate's attempt at spelling a Mc or Mac surname?

From the little I know of history and emmigration, I understand several Scottish families immigrated to Canada via Hudson's Bay, which could explain the high concentration of Muxlows in Ontario. I am wondering if there is any correlation there.

There are far too many redheads in the family to be explained away without some scottish and irish involvement.
