I have a great grandfather called William Mutch and I'm trying to verify that he is the William Mutch born 1853 in Fyvie. The only clue I have stems from a photograph taken of him in army inform, dated on the back 1883. From Army records, the only William Mutch of that period seems to correspond with him. The records say he enlisted (Aberdeen)in Mar 1879 aged 24 years 5 months and of the Parish of Fyvie. He was released Aug 1885 to the Reserves which he was discharged from in 1891. His Next of Kin was Alexander Mutch of Inverurie, father. As I think your ancestry connects with him I wondered if you knew if William Mutch born 1853 in Fyvie was ever in the army. I'm hoping that someone holds a photo of him which I might be able to compare with my photo. My grandmother, was born 1871 and on her marriage certificate she entered her father as William Mutch. She clearly know which one, and now I'm trying to find out who he is for my family tree.
