Musick/Music family books

There are two books about the Musick/Music family, both having the same name: "Genealogy of the Musick Family and Some Kindred Lines." The first was by the Reverend Grover Cleveland Musick, copyrighted and published in 1964. The second was by Egbert S. Musick, copyrighted and published in 1978.
Work by our researchers has discovered many errors in both works, but we must realize that these authors did not have access to computers, the internet, email, birth, death, marriage, and census data, court records now all indexed and computerized, books and writings by other authors, Google searches, and a great deal of other information now more easily available than when they wrote. Too, much of their work had to rely upon the memories of their narrators, and that is often given with the best of intentions, but still erroneous.
Now, however, it has just been reported that the Daughters of the American Revolution ("DAR") will no longer accept content of the Egbert Musick volume as acceptable for proof of membership in the DAR, and that the DARs have it in red they "can no longer accept this as proof must have other documentation." Finally, since the Egbert Musick work accepts and relies upon almost all of Grover Cleveland's earlier work, the Grover Cleveland Musick work also must be viewed with considerable skepticism. Our researchers concur in this conclusion. Also, those researchers have discovered that there is vast confusion in both books which confuse David (son of Elexious) with Col. David Musick, (son of Abraham Musick and Sarah Lewis,) and then they have David marrying Annie McKinney in Rutherford County NC, saying this was taken from Egbert's book. Nothing has been found to place David (son of Elexious) in Rutherford County. We feel we owe it to our Members to pass on these developments.
A principal objective of our researchers in preparation for the proposed new book by the Musick Family Association of America is to positively identify the best sources for genealogical information to be published, to verify all data, and to identify and correct any errors which appear elsewhere. They are working long and hard towards this end. Perhaps we should add that much of the data appearing on the internet often rely on these two books, and that data must be given the same skeptical review. Thanks for your attention.
