Hi, LEE! Looks like I'm following you around
This from Lou Murphy:
"Sarah's birthdate, 2 Feb 1711, is proven by the family recordof JOHN MUSE JR and his wife ANN, whose maiden name may have been SANFORD (but not proven).
Sarah's will gave her age as "72" --i.e., born ca 1710.The only "Sarah Muse" of record who was alive in 1725 was the daughter of John JR & Ann. You undoubtedly know that Ann Muse's 1725 will gave guardianship of her daughter Sarah to her sister & brother in law, Mary (Muse) and Richard Sanford. Sarah would have been only about 14 then. There is no further record of Sarah.
On 10 Mar 1753, ELISHA MUSE received 125 lbs tobacco for 4 days attendance in Caroline Co. court. The presumption is that Elishawas of age by that date to do court duty, so he was likely bornbefore 1732.
Assuming that John JR's daughter SARAH is the same Sarah whose will named son "Elisha Muse", it's not outside the realm of possibility that Sarah had Elisha out of wedlock, in which case he would have had to use his mother's maiden name."Elisha" certainly isn'ta Muse family name
Elisha Muse is on the 1787 tax list of Loudon Co VA along with George & Richard CARTER and John THORN. Jake Thorn wondered if this John Thorn was Sarah's son, who was born ca ca 1750, & if George & Richard Carter might be her grandsons.Richard CARTER was on a tithable on the 1771 tax list of Loudon. I've found no further record of Elisha Muse, other than as a legatee in his mother's will.
It's my own opinion that Sarah Muse, daughter of John JR and wife Ann, is the same person as Sarah Muse/Carter/Thorn/Wilson, just based on logic and the process of elimination. But alas, I can't prove it.
"The Family Record of John Muse JR and Descendants" has been found and authenticated. It was in a small memorandum book, and the entries appear to have been made at or close to the dates given. The original is now in the Muse Family Association Archives, in custody of the historian, Robert T. Muse. It is this record that gives the birthdate of John JR's daughter SARAH, and it also contains many other births and marriages for two more Muse generations.. "
