Hi Joe,
I'm interested in your comments on the ancestry of Sophia Pope Muse, wife of James Muse, Sr. and (probably) John Morrison. I have never seen documentation of her line back nearly as far as you stated, and I would like to learn more.
I also want to respectfully point out that the Seale/Muse connections are not quite as stated in your posting. Charles Seale (1729-1798) DID marry Lydia Muse (c1730/1735-1799) about 1749-1753. Lydia Muse was the daughter of James Muse, Sr. and his wife, Sophia Pope Muse. Charles Seale's brother, William Seale, Sr. (1722-1790/1800) APPARENTLY did have a relationship with Lydia's sister, also named Sophia Pope Muse, resulting in the birth of William Seal Muse, a.k.a. William Seal.
William Seale, Sr. later married, we think to Winifred ?, and had sons Charles Seale and William Seale, Jr. William Seale, Jr.'s wife was indeed Martha.
There is some speculation that she was Martha Muse, the daughter of James Muse, Jr. and niece of Lydia and Sophia Pope Muse who married the Seale brothers. However, to my knowledge it is merely SPECULATION that William Seale, Jr.'s wife was Martha Muse. Have you found proof of this connection?
I think it is very likely that Martha Seale may have been Martha Muse, as the Muse and Seale families were closely connected back into Prince William County Virginia; moreover, William Seale, Sr. and James Muse, Jr. and their families lived near one another in Cumberland (later Moore) County NC during the period 1765-1790. So certainly William Seale, Jr. and Martha Muse would have been well acquainted. But I have been unsuccessful in locating any documentation for the maiden name of William Jr.'s wife, Martha Seale. If you have found proof that Martha Seale's maiden name was Muse, I would certainly appreciate it learning about it.
Thanks!
Tim Hudson
