Vicki, I really don't have any clues. I always reach a dead end in North Carolina. I am intrigued by the person who responded to your earlier posting professing to have information that the ancestor was from Ireland via New York. Perhaps the source of that information could shed some light. I wonder also if you are related to the late Doug Stewart who I met and corresponded with many years ago. He was very helpful in helping me get started in family research--and I have two Stewart lines as well.
