I am attempting to establish the ancestors for my wife’s side of the family, and am currently working on the Murrah Family. From the remaining family members I have been able to establish a few details. The Grandmother was named Sallie or Sudie, and remarried in Columbus Mississippi, after her husband died. I have found her in the 1920 Census listed as Sudie M. From family members I know that she is buried in Ethelsville, Pickens County, Alabama.

No one remembers much about the Grandfather, but there is general agreement that they were in Ethelsville prior to moving to Columbus. I have found the following marriage record in Alabama:
Spouse 1 : J. W. Murrah
Spouse 2 : Sallie Brown
Marriage Date : 29 Jan 1893
Marriage Place :Pickens
Surety/Bond Date :
Performed By : Minister of the Gospel
Surety/Perf. Name : W. J. W. Clardy
OSPage : 378

The 1920 census gives her birth as abt 1883, but I think this could be short by at least 5 years, maybe more.

This agrees with family memory of him being much older than she was. Also her surname of BROWN agrees with family memory, and I am attempting to confirm that detail. I have found a death certificate for John W. Murrah in Pickens County, Alabama 18 May, 1914. This also fits generally with other information from the family memory. So I am looking for a male named MURRAH, that may have been called J.W. , and named John W.
From that basis I have selected a son of Augustus MURRAH and Saditha J. listed in the 1960 census:
1860 Federal Census, Alabama, Yorkville Beat, Pickens County, Alabama, Enumerated on 20th of July 1860, sheet #907, Post Office Yorkville,

Murrah, Augustua, 41, W, Farmer, 500, 700, Georgia,
, Saditha J., 36, F, South Carolina,
, Mary, 17, F, Alabama,
* , J.W., 15, M, Alabama, *
, William, 13, M, Alabama,
, Martha, 11, F, Alabama,
, Sarah, 8, F, Alabama,
, Margaret, 6, F, Alabama,
,Eliza, 4, F, Alabama,
, James??, 1, M, Alabama,
, Alice, 2/12, F, Alabama,
This same family is also found in the 1850 census in Tishomingo County, Mississippi. where Augustus is shown as a wagon maker and born in Georgia.

Can anyone confirm that I am on the correct path, or show me the error in my direction. Does any one know any details of J.W. MURRAH?
