MURPHY'S-Alexander Co., NC in the early-mid 1800's
I would like to get in contact anyone who has some family information on the Murphy's who were living in Alexander Co., North Carolina back in the early 1800's, and later. This county used to be part of Wilkes, so there is a good chance if your family was living there earlier, they were part of the other Murphy family.
I have had a Murphy line that I have not been able to get very far with in the past. However, I knew that my maternal grandmother's grandmother was SARAH MURPHY. She married Joshua Barnes in 1819 in what is now Alexander County, close to Taylorsville.
Some of the given names of their children may have been Murphy names, such as ELI, ALEXANDER, CELIA, CAROLINE,and LEVI, my great grandfather.
I have found out that some of the extended Barnes, related to Joshua, also married into the Murphy family in this region of North Carolina. Thomas Barnes married ANNA MURPHY,and since they named one of their sons ARCHIBALD, I am wondering if Archibald Murphy was Anna's father,as it wasn't a Barnes name.
I also seem to be finding other Murphy connections to my Barnes family besides the above examples.
If someone has more information and data on these Murphy's, please contact me and perhaps we can both profit by looking at each other's material.
Thanks,
