Hi again, I looked at Eugene M. Murphy, whom you thought might have been president of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa in the early 1900s. I'm not finding a Eugene Murphy/Murphey in Tuscaloosa in the census. I looked up the presidents of the university and got this list:
James Knox Powers * president 1897-1901
William Stokes Wyman * president 1901-1902
John William Abercrombie * president 1902 -1911
Dr. George H. Denny president * 1912 - 1936.
Richard Clarke Foster president * 1937-1941
George Hutcheson Denny president * 1941-1942
Raymon Ross Paty president * 1942-1947
Ralph E. Adams (acting president) * 1947-1948
John Morin Gallalee president * 1948-1953
So I don't think he was a president of the University, and if he's not in Tuscaloosa in the census, it's hard to believe he worked there (or if he did, it was between census years).
As for finding him elsewhere, there seem to be at least three Eugene M. Murphys who are the right age born in Kentucky. Do you know the name of his spouse? Or any children? Or other places he may have lived? Any additional information would help me see which one is the right Eugene.
Using the spelling "MurphEy" I get nobody. The Eugenes I found are all Murphy.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
