Are there any Murphy genealogists in Michigan who might be descended from a branch of my Murphy tree? Can anyone out there help me find my Murphys? I would appraciate this very much.
They began with John Murphy coming to NY about 1825 and first setteling in Beekmanton NY where he married in 1834 Elizabeth Edgerton. They then bought a 200 acre farm in Stockholm NY and raised their family there until John passed in Dec 1855. Elizabeth married a Mr. ?? Brooks and they moved to Michigan after the Civil War taking the youngest Murphy children with them. This was Marietta Murphy who married 1st Charles Keeler and second Thomas H. Brown---and John Murphy JR and Henry Murphy. Betsey Brooks does show up in a 1900 census listed with Marietta and Thomas Brown and one of her other sons--Thomas N. Murphy and his family there at the time. I have no other information about this family except that another son--James Murphy--was said to have "gone west" and taken up ranching after the war and he may also have turned up in Michigan. This has long been a brick wall. I am trying to discover if any of these children of Betsey may have kept any sort of family record or bible record that might tell me where John Murphy came from in Ireland or who his parents were. I would love to correspond with a descendant if one of you is out there and in the process of trying to trace this Murphy lineage. I appreciate all the help anyone can give me. Thank you.
