Murphys from Dublin Margaret (1926) Michael (c1922) & Anne(c1921)
My grandmother was Margaret Murphy born in Dublin 17 May 1926 She died in 1973 aged 47
She married Mannix Edward Noone (known as Mac) and they lived in Marino Dublin where they had 6 children - Marie, Bernie, Patricia, Ann, Sean & Derek.
Her brother is Michael Murphy (c1922?) who emigrated to the States (an engineer at Singer in Miami). He and his wife Mari had 4 children Neil (a marine biologist), Paul, Maura and Mairead (a nurse who married a Cuban)....
Her sister Anne (born c 1921?) married a Jamaican, Arthur Bennett and together (in Jamaica) they had 3 children, Patrona (who married and moved to Canada) Lucinda and Evana…
Their mother, my great-grandmother was also a Margaret Murphy (nee Margaret Downey) known as Madge.Born c 1890?In Dublin?
Her brother my great-granduncle was Tom Downey. It is thought that they spent time in a home?
May have lived in Gardiner Street, Dublin.
Margaret Downey married John (Jack) Murphy my great-grandfather who was born in Dublin in 1893.He worked for Dublin Corporation as an Iron Welder/Monger but also spent time in the Irish Army (and I’m told was imprisoned in England for his involvement in the 1916 Rising?)
He appears on the 1911 census as an Engine Smith, living at home in 4 Kilmore Little, Coolock, Dublin with his parents.
Johns father, Matthew Murphy, my great great grandfather, born in Dublin 1845, was a Woolen Weaver, as was his mother Anne my great-great-grandmother born 1849 (maiden name unknown).
Of their 8 children only 7 were living in 1911.Only 3 at home. John, his sister Mary born 1893 who was also a Woolen Weaver and his other sister Fanny born 1889 was a dressmaker (despite being blind).
Pre Coolock the Murphys lived in Leinster Avenue – possibly No 9?
I'd apprecaite any help or information please with any of the above
Many thanks
