George Dennis Murphree

I live at Lake Whitney, Texas and have passed this little cemetery on my way into Clifton to the grocery store, many, many times over the past 25 years. So last Monday, I stopped. The graves are few and far between, but there were three behind an old fence. The stone on the right read S.E. Murphree, February 7, 1843 - August 19, 1906. The stone in the middle read G. D. Murphree, September 10, 1836 - December 23, 1925. The stone to the left read Ed Murphree 1867-1909. There was a blank space to the far right and another space behind the middle stone with a small marker, no name, but looked like a child's grave.

I was truly, truly surprised to read these three stones, and since I descend from Daniel Murphree I felt I needed to look a bit further into this find. So, I Googled around and found that "G.D." is George Dennis who married "S.E.", Sarah Elizabeth Surratt. Most postings didn't agree on the birth date or place of birth with the head stones, but I do think these are the folks that are buried here. George descends from Daniel, too.

So. Does anyone know who Ed Murphree is? Who the child may belong to? And more, are there any living Murphrees in Bosque County that I may contact about a Leola Murphree who died in September of 1998?

Isn't it a small world!
