MURPHY/MURPHEY

I am trying to find some info on my G5 Grandfather, John MURPHY. I have in my possession a disposition taken in a poaching case in Garrard County KY. Part of the disposition reads that my G5 Grandfather came from South Carolina in 1779: "This disposition of John Murphy taken at the house of said Murphy on the 18th day of Feb 1819 and to this he read as evidence in the suit in Chancery now defending and undertermined in the Garrard Circuit Cour wherein Thomas Todd and others as complaintants and Vancleve and other are defendants and this deformant saith that in the fall of 1779, I removed from South Carolina to Kentucky and settled on Dorherty Creeck about two miles from hwere Danville now stands and continued there until the following Spring and went on a campaign under Geo Clark (General George Rogers Clark) against the Shawanae Indians. After said campaign, I lived at Scott's Station until the year 1783. I think and lived within two miles of said Station for 5 or 6 years after, I left the Station." This John MURPHY (b. Abt 1755 (SC?) d. 1826 (Garrard County KY) married Mary "Polly" YARBROUGH 14 July 1796 in Lincoln County KY (b. Abt 1782 Virginia d. 1866 Garrard)County KY). Polly was the daughter of Randolph YARBROUGH and Mary BAILEY. The story that has passed down to me is that my John MURPHY may have been mistreated by his Step-Father and John left home at age 24 years old to help Daniel Boone in his settlement of the Kentucky region. I have not been able to find any kinfolk of my John; however, with a lot of the names, I assume the spelling of MURPHY could have been MURPHEY. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
