Murphey Family Genealogy Forum

There is a Murphey the Jeweler store in Tyler established 1850. These Murpheys are descendants of Alexander Hamilton Murphey who migrated from Orange County (later Alamance County) NC in 1830 by way of Tennessee. AHM was the youngest son of Archibald Debow Murphey, an NC statesman. I don't know if you have a connection there or not. Many volunteers from Tennessee went to fight in the Mexican War (just for something to do) but were never accounted in records. We have never found where AHM died, because his wife remarried to Nathan Wilson but her male child ARchibald Murphey kept the family name. We know other Murphey men said in a letter that they were going to fight in the war, but no record has been found of them.
