Am trying to identify parents of George, a RW Infantry soldier. I descended twice from this George Murphy/Murphey and Elizabeth (Robertson)'s through their son Geo, Jr. who m Frances Jefferson cousin of President TJ, and also descended from the daughter Joanna who m John Mitchell Jr, in Robertson Co., TN.

In 1803 an Isaac Robertson deeded 92 acres in Robertson Co., TN to George Sr. It appears that George sold his property in 1797 in Pittsylvania, and probably began his trek to what is now TN after that date. We don't know who the Isaac was in TN. TN became as state in 1796.

(Elizabeth (Robertson) Murphy was the dau of James Robertson, Jr., gs of David Robertson of Perthshire, Scotland, & Elizabeth (Crawford) of Augusta Co., VA. James Jr, and his father arrived in Augusta Co ca 1737.)

George purchased 238 acres from George Ridley on 10/22/1778, which was located on Cherrystone Creek, about 3 miles from Chatham, the county seat of Pittsylvania Co., VA. On Aug 14, 1792, he received a grant for his RW service which was 140 acres adjoining his property on Cherrystone Creek.

I have from an early researcher that in 1781 the Court Orders show a James Murphey as Administrator of Thomas George Murphey, deceased in Pittsylvania Co. It is not known whether these other Murphey's were connected.

Any help would be appreciated.

W. Ray Walker
