Samuel Murdock also sold the land to the United States government for the Crown Point Lighthouse in 1858. I have a copy of the sale from the archives. He was also lighthouse keeper there from Oct. 1861 to March 1862. I think he substituted for my ggg grandfather Capt. James Raine who had left to fight in the civil war. I think Samuel was helping James Raine's wife to keep the light while James was gone. But I am still trying to get the proof.
