Actually, I only had two children, Frances and Dora Isabel, listed as living offspring of James and Elizabeth (Kerns) Collins Murdock, from James's will. It was Mary Myers, replying to my posting on the Murdock Forum, who had a son James born to them. If, as you say, your James was born 1 June 1846, that would fit with the James and Elizabeth marriage, which took place 26 June 1845. If your James died before his father did (9 July 1870), then that would explain his omission in the will, which listed only living children. An alternate possibility is that your James had moved out on the frontier and had not been heard from for some time at the time that the will was written.
