I am trying to learn more information on James E. Murdock, the actor and elocutionist who was an avid fund raiser during the American Civil War. (The Tribute Book, 1865, p.126-128) He spent time in a 30 day unit and had two sons who were Captains. One was killed at Chicamauga and the other was wounded there and had to leave service due to his injuries. A post on a message board elsewhere indicates James E. Murdock is buried at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, OH and that 3 graves away is a Thomas F. Murdock. It says James E. died in 1893 at the age of 82, so that would make his year of birth about 1811.
I have been trying to learn something about a small book James E. published during the civil war to raise funds for soldiers' families.
I hope some of this information will be useful to families researching here. If anyone has information on this Murdock, I'd love to know more.
Duchess Martin (not a Murdock descendant)
