Murdies in the borders.
My mother was a Murdie who grew up at Heiferlaw Bank Farm near Alnwick. Her father emigrated to New Zealand with his cousins about 1908. He returned after four years but they remained in New Zealand (near Christchurch). His cousins originated from farms in the Crookham area of North Northumberland and I presume that they were related to the Murdies in the Morebattle/Hownham area of Roxburghshire.(The name John Murdie has re-occurred through several generations of the Murdies from Heiferlaw - possibly a connection?.)Also there are family connections in the Bamburgh area. Graveyards are good sources of Murdie connections.
Currently the only Murdies that I am aware of in the Borders are in the Hawick area. Contact was remade with the New Zealand Murdies approximately 20 years ago.
