Major David Reid Murchison was born 5 Dec 1837 in Cumberland County, North Carolina. He died 28 Feb 1882, supposedly in New York. He was the son of Duncan Murchison (1801-1870) and Frances Reid (1806-1839). He served in the CSA during the Civil War. He is said to have married Lucy Wooster Wright. The few sources I have are below. I have no descendants or other details. I would welcome additional information and/or corrections!

!HISTORY: John A Oates, "The Story of Fayetteville and the Upper Cape Fear." The Murchison family of Cumberland County was founded by Kenneth McKenzie Murchison who settled on the Little River (now Manchester) coming from Scotland in 1773. His son, Duncan Murchison, was born in Manchester May 20, 1801... Another son of Duncan Murchison, David Reid Murchison, was born at Holly Hill, Manchester, December 5, 1837. This old estate is located on the south side of the road through Fort Bragg on the east side of Little River. He was in business in Wilmington in the firm of Eli Murray & Co and became Captain in the 54 NC Regiment. On account of his fine executive ability, President Davis appointed him Inspector General of the Commissary Dept of NC. He died in New York in 1882.
