Hello Linda,

Lovely to hear from you. It used to be mainly Rootsweb in various guises that I looked and did not realise that your message existed.

From memory-I will check the data later-Charles was one of 6 children, I think in this order:

Nicolas (female)
John
James
Charles
Susanna
Jean

I came to this conclusion by varying the names of James Murchie to include Murphy, and Jean Paul to include Pauly and Pauling. Even by the standard of the OPRs of the time it almost looks as if they were trying to disguise their identities :-).

I am indeed a descendant of Sarah Murchie (1847-1925) and Thomas Robinson (lots of these!)(1849-1900). They had the one child Thomas Robinson (1876-1959)who was my grandfather. He had 5 children, one of whom is still alive and living in Kirkcudbright.

I do have the inscription on the headstone in Penninghame old cemetery erected by Charles presumably on the death of his wife, Marrion Clark in 1882 which mentions 3 of Sarah and your James'siblings who died in infancy. I assume you have this information-if not I will send it to you.

I am currently living in Solihull, just outside Birmingham. I was born in Glasgow, and my late father was born in Kirkcudbright. I still have relatives in Kirkcudbright and Twynholm, though none are called Robinson. Where are you in Australia?

I would certainly like to correspond with you. I also have one or 2 theories on the connection with JPJ. For example, it is possible that Jean Paul was one of the children of John Paul and Mary Kerr of Kircudbright, John Paul being the son of George Paul who is often (but not always) regarded as a brother of John Paul (senior), the father of JPJ. It would be fun to compare theories

I look forward to hearing from you further.

Kind regards,

Tom Robinson
