My ancestor Thomas Mansfield was born in County Kilkenny, Ireland. His daughter Margaret married Michael Dorsey of County Kildare, Ireland and their family settled in Morrison, Brown County, Wisconsin circa 1850.

My research has led me to believe that the Mansfields of County Kilkenny may be actually Mansels who settled in Ireland as early as the 12th century in Wexford and Kilkenny, later settling in Tipperary, Limerick, Cork, and Kildare. The family of de Mandeville also took the name Mansfield. Some of the Mansfields in Ireland also claim descent from an ancestor from Mansfield, Nottinghamshire temp Henry II.

The family of William Monsell, Baron Emly of Tervoe, probably arrived later after the time of Henry VIII.
