Jim,
Now I am sure we are related but probably in a distant way back in the 1800s or 1700s. I believe Brendan is from the same area from which my family hailed. All of our educated guesses lead to Ballylongford and Listowel. A Craigen family came from Ballylongford and married Jeremiah Kennelly and Ellen Mulvihill's daughter Mary. My grandfather looked like an image of Martin Kennelly, a mayor of Chicago in the 1950's (I think it was that time). Martin's family hailed from Ballylongford.
My uncle says some cousins went up the Ottawa River and pioneered in Renfrew County in Ontario. I know these Kennelly families were from Ballylongford.
Another family from northern Kerry, the Guina family, married into my family too. I believe they were all friends in the Ballylongford area and kept connections on arriving in Ontario. I wrote to Dublin about 18 years ago but they indicated I would not have any luck with the parish registers in the area...the relevant years were missing. So...I continue to work on this. Jeremiah was born circa 1810 and Ellen just after that...but I think this is approximate time. Jeremiah and Ellen had three children born in Ireland in the 1840s...Johannah, John and Mary. Ellen's brother, Patrick Mulvihill, lived next door to Jeremiah K. and Ellen. His father, Jeremiah M., lived with him. Because of naming patterns there is a good possibility that Jeremiah Mulvihill's wife was Johannah. Jeremiah K.'s parents might have been John and Mary. There was a John Kennelly m. to a Nora Scanlon in the area. I understand that Hanora and Nora were sometimes written as Mary in the records. Also Jeremiah K. was referred to as Darby Kennelly in church records here. I think there was some interchange between "Irish" names and English equivalents.
I have a friend, Dennis Mackey, who married a Maura Kennelly from Ballylongford. I strongly believe we are from that general area.
Apparently, a number of clerics of the name of Kennelly were in charge of the Ballylongford church in the early 1600s.
I don't know if this makes sense.

Jim
