MULLIN (and O'CARROLL) connection with Connemara, Ireland

Does anyone have any family record (or ANY record or snippet of knowledge) of the MULLIN (or O'CARROLL) connection with Connemara in Co. Galway, Ireland? My primary focus of attention is on Clifden in Connemara in the period around 1850 but any information or suggestion is welcome. My g.grandparents, PATRICK and MARY (nee O'CARROLL) MULLIN (both born 1822) emigrated from there to Cape Colony (South Africa) in 1852. Their fathers were THOMAS PETER MULLIN and BERNARD O'CARROLL. They were Catholic families. Little else is known of them and their families (no other first names of the Connemara families) but there is a reference in the family 'history' indicating that other family members emigrated to the USA. The names of Patrick and Mary's children may offer some indication: Mary (died in infancy in Ireland), John, Bridget, Patrick James, Thomas Michael, Margaret Theresa, Mary Ann Cecilia, Peter Bernard (my grandfather). All lived and died in South Africa.
