Sorry not to know anything definitive about your William, but I did want to tell you that I remember seeing records in that general area of IN of MULLIKINS and MULLICANS, most of whom had moved into IN from KY. Some may have been from the area of Nicholas and Fleming? co KY ... my own MULLICANS were in teh Green/Lincoln/Casey Co area. William was a very common name among the M's from the Baltimore, MD area, although of course your William could have been from the New England MULLIKENS. I don't pay that much attention to spelling before 1930 or so ... heaven knows, our ancestors and the county clerks, etc., didn't always take care to spell consistently.
