My father is Robert K. Mulligan from Owensboro
Ky. His father is Richard M. mentioned in the biography below. I have
the marriage bond of JS and Kate, which says that the groom's father was
born in Maryland, but does not give the name. (Also, on the bond the
space for the groom's mother is blank, and it gives the birthplace of J.
S. as Nelson county Ky, not Washington. Also, I visited St. Raphael
cemetery near Sorgho Ky. and found the grave of J. Sim Mulligan, 1838 -
Any hope of finding J.S's parents and their parents? How far back do we
go to find someone who came here from Ireland?

J. S. MULLICAN was born in Washington County, Ky., March 22, 1838, and
at the age of three years removed to Nelson County. During the late war
he enlisted in Company A, Sixteenth Mississippi Regiment, Confederate
army, and served two years; was in the siege of Yorktown and battle of
the Wilderness, or seven days' fight; was discharged at Richmond, Va.
He then came to Daviess County, where he now owns 250 acres of fine land
on Panther Creek. He was married April 10, 1866, to Kate L. Stowers, a
native of Daviess County, born July 25, 1846. Nine children have been
born to them--James S., born Feb. 9,k 1867; John V., born Sept. 22,
1868; Henry L., born Sept. 30, 1870, died Aug. 6, 1873; Bettie I., born
April 6, 1873; Ollie and Odie, born July 31, 1875; Richard M., born Dec.
6, 1877; Mamie E., born Jan. 10, 1880; Addie, born March 3, 1882. Mr.
Mullican is a member of the Catholic and his wife of the Baptist church.
