If you are a genetic Mullins male (or would like to sponsor one), now is the time to act. Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) is offering a reduction in the test costs now through Sept. 30th. FTDNA is one of the best facilities (if not THE best) for genetic testing--they are the company that the National Geographic picked to do all the testing for their (now famous) Human Migration Project--which has mapped out the times and routes our ancestors used when they left Africa eons ago. There has never been a better time to be tested--and there may never be a better price out there for the test. FTDNA is offering a nearly 50% reduction in the cost of the 37 marker test (the Y-DNA test we recommend for members of the Mullins Y-DNA Project). The test normally costs $191.00. New members can order the test for $119.00 from now until the end of Sept. This is a significant reduction in cost--and FTDNA has never offered such a reduction before (and may never offer it again). PS...if you are interested in your maternal genetic origins, FTDNA is also offering a "combo" reduced price on (both) the 37 marker Y-DNA test + a mtDNA test for the cost of $189.00. The mtDNA test will show you the exact maternal DNA of your mother (that you inherited from her, and that she inherited from her mother, and her mother's mother--all the way back to your founding maternal ancestor). This can be quite interesting--for instance, our members who have a maternal connection to Ollie Cox--wife of Holly Creek John Mullins, can now claim (among their ancestral kinsmen) the fellow called "The Iceman" who was dug out of the Italian Alps some years back--his mtDNA is exactly the same as the maternal DNA of Ollie Cox Mullins--showing us that they both had a common maternal ancestor. Other members have (via mtDNA testing) been able to find out that they have Mediterranean or Native American or Scandinavian maternal roots--so, it would perhaps be worth considering. If interested, write me at: revel55@msn.com You must be a male and genetically a Mullins (or any variation of the name) directly on your paternal line to qualify for membership in the Mullins Project--OR, females can sponsor a test (by paying all or part of the cost) for a Mullins male that qualifies. Alternatively, if you are a direct female descendant of one of the founding maternal lines found in the geographic area of the Middle Appalachians, and can prove your maternal connection back to this ancestor, you can order a mtDNA test for $149.00 through Sept. 30th. The regular price is $189.00. If interested, write me and if you meet the criteria, I will send you a join link to my other DNA Project--mtDNA of Middle Appalachians. This will allow you to order the test for the reduced price. The Mullins Project currently has over 50 members that represent at least 5 distinct Mullins lines. Find out if you match with any of these lines by ordering the test now! Do you believe that your line descends from the Des Moulins line of Mullins? Or the Melungeon set represented by Irish Jim Mullins? Are you out of the Irish set? Or, were your Mullins English, or Norman French? By DNA testing you can find the answers to these questions and others. There may never be a better time to "take the plunge" and find out (genetically) just who you really are!!
