My gr-gr grandfather, Thomas Mullins/Mullen/Mullin (the name is spelled all three ways) and his wife Catherine Benson had nine children. One of them was Mary, who married a Higgins. I don't know his first name. Thomas and Catherine were in Highland County Ohio. Thomas' will lists all the children as heirs; four of them, Ann, Barney, James and Margaret, had moved to Iowa. I am descended from daughter Susanna, one of the children who stayed in Ohio as did Mary, presumably,as she is not listed as living in Iowa. Thomas was born in Pennsylvania in 1800, died in Ohio in 1861. Could Mary be your Ellen (Mary Ellen, perhaps)? If this is your line I'll gladly share more information.
