There is a Joe Mulkey who is supposedly Cherokee Indian, in my lineage. His daughter, Nancy Mulkey Smith, is my ggggrandmother. Her daughter, Elizabeth, married my gggrandfather, Uriah Shepherd.According to a book "History in Headstones", "Indian Joe" Mulkey is buried here in Arkansas.I don't know if this is the Joe Mulkey you seek, however, he came from the Alabama-Georgia-South Carolina area.I have very limited information on this branch of my family other than Nancy Mulkey was in the Trail of Tears March circa 1836.
