Moses Mulkey was probably a son of Jonathan Mulkey, son of John Mulkey (d. 1736).Jonathan and Moses went to Georgia early on (from memory, 1750-1760s?). Anyway, there was a James Mulkey living in Wilkes Co., NC, in the 1770s and 1780s. He was probably the son of another James and grandson of the above John. This James probably had sons Philip, John (b. 1768) and James, the last two of whom lived in Ashe Co., NC, in 1790. The elder James seems to have left Wilkes Co. (or died, but there is no probate record) after 1783.
The other possibility is that the Loyds named a son after Philip Mulkey (b. 1732), an early Baptist preacher in SC, or his son Jonathan Mulkey, an early Baptist preacher in eastern Tennessee.
