My great great grandparents and other great grandparents were Irish Immigrants that lived in Portland. From much of the research that I have done the majority of the "Irishman" lived "intown" Portland around the Munjoy Hill and Washington Ave and Congress Street areas.
The Calvary Cemetery in South Portland, Maine is the Catholic Cemtery for the area. All of my Irish ancestors are buried at Calvary. It was against the Catholic religion back then to be cremated so more than likely you will find your ancestors buried in the Calvary Cemetery. I will be going to the Calvary Cemetery this summer. If there is something that I can look up for you let me know.
Have you checked at City Hall in Portland for a death certificate. I have gotten death certificates going back to the early 1800's.
I went to high school with Foleys and Mulkerns. One of my best friends was a Bridget Mulkern. There were alot of Mulkerns that lived on Long Island and Peaks Island which are islands just off of Portland. There were many Mulkerns in the fishing industry. I cannot tell you all of the Foleys that I have known.
