Just kidding. However, Australians, Canadians and South Africans DO use these forums, and the Irish spread out all over the world. So "Here" isn't much of a clue. It is probably Massachusetts, it being famous for Irish and rocks in the fields, but maybe not.
Your best place to start would be your mother, if she is still alive, still in her right mind and still speaking to you. If not, you needn't post the sad details.
You always start wih what you know and work back, using birth certificates, naturalization forms, death certificates, marriage licenses, family Bibles, obituaries, cemetery records and so on. You may find the family legends are accurate; you may not.
