When I posted my original message I had only just started tracing my ancestors.
Since then I have discovered further details about my family.
They are:
My grandfather Robert was born in Motherwell in May 1900
My great grd father was Thomas, probably born in 1871, source for this info is 1891 census, he is listed as aged 20 and married to a Charlotte Ann (nee Crawley)
I have confirmed that my grandfather had an elder bother Thomas (jnr) who was 1 year old in the said census.
I also know from my grandfathers marriage certificate, he married Jeannie Rankin in 1928, that he had a younger brother who was a witness at the wedding, his name is William.
My father also named Robert recollects a brother called John, who was possibly the youngest.
Therefore the children of Thomas and Charlotte Ann, in order of the oldest to youngest would be Thomas jnr (born 1889/1890) , Robert (my grd father, born 1900 ), William and John (till trying to find ages for these).
