Hi

James Muir was my GGG Grandfather. He was a Stonemason and married Margaret Reid on 10/12/1848. They had three children that I know of, Janet, John and James McKinnon Muir who was born in 1849. Margaret Died in 1861 and James and his family moved in with her parents at 237 High Street, Ayr. The 1871 census shows James was resident in Ayr Asylum, where he died in 1875.

His son James McKinnon Muir who was a butcher in Ayr, married Elizabeth McLellan and they had 6 children that I know of: John McPhail Muir born 1873
Malcolm, Lizzie, Mary, Andrew, Jeanie and James. They went to live in Campbeltown.
Elizabeth McLellan died before 1900, and James married an Elizabeth Campbell in 1900.

John McPhail Muir married Annie Mitchell in 1894 and their children were:
James born 1896 (My Grandfather)
John, Joseph and Malcolm.

Margaret Reid's parents were John Reid who was born in Ayr and Sarah McKinnon who was born in Ireland in 1799.

James Muir's parents were John Muir (also a stonemason)who was born in 1784 and died in 1859, and Elizabeth McKenna, and they lived in Dundonald. His known siblings are William, David and Elizabeth.

John Muir's parents were Hugh Muir a cartwright who was born in 1764, and Janet Guthrie. Known siblings are Hugh and Mary.

I am trying to find any info I have not got already so any help you can give me would be appreciated.

I have copies of birth, marriage and death certs for some of the above. If you would like copies just let me know.

Also, I've just realised that we are related!!!!
