I read with interest your message regarding MUGFORD family in Wales. I did a little check in the 1881 census and found only a small number of families who originate in Devon and Cornwall and living in Wales.
One of these, William MUGFORD, was living in Gelligaer, Glamorgan, and worked as a pitman. He came from St Blazey in Cornwall and was the brother of my GGGgrandmother. His wife also came from Cornwall but his 2 children were born in Pontlottyn.
Therefore, the vast majority or the MUGFORDs in Wales at this census time either originated from other counties, or were born in Wales. It would be interesting to analyse the distribution and try to relate this to IGI records for Wales.
I am intrigued by the hand characteristic of your family; perhaps you would tell me more!
