Seeking family of the Muckaway's of Kent, England prior to early 1700's. Originally Scottish, the name was likely MacAWAY or similar. My earliest known ancestor is John MUCKAWAY possibly of High Halden, Kent. He married Elizabeth. One known child: Richard Muckaway b. 18 June 1748 High Halden. Richard m. Mary POUNE, daughter of Samuel POUNE & Mary RANSON. Child of Richard Muckaway & Mary Poune: Richard MUCKAWAY b. 5 February 1794 in High Halden. Richard m. Ann WILSON on 22 July 1816, daughter of John WILSON & Ann KIRBY of Canterbury, Kent. Children of Richard MUCKAWAY & Ann WILSON: Louiza, George, Edmund, Charles, Stephen, Betty, Olive, Eliza, Rachel Ann & William, all born in Kent. Richard & Ann emigrated with their children to New Zealand in 1841, where the name was inadvertently changed to MUDGWAY.
