John J. Mudgett was my GG grandfather. The information that I have is that he was born on 8 October 1805 in Penobscot County, Maine. About 1818, he and his family moved to Cattaraugus County, NY - the article (written by his daughter) said near Lake Erie. On 12 August 1832, he married Harriet Ann Smith in Cattaraugus County, NY. Harriet was born in LeRoy, Cattaraugus, NY on 15 April 1818. She died on 30 Jan 1886 in Jasper County, IA. Please email me at schmitz80@hotmail.com to exchange information. I have further details on their pioneering days in Iowa. I am very much interested in learning more about the history of these two families.
