Question: Is this William N. Mudgett William Napier "Willie" Mudgett born in IL abt 1858, son of Edwin Sanborn Mudgett?
This is a 2+ year-old note, so maybe you have this already. In case not:
in the 1880 census 14 year old Bertha Rensberg is living in a household headed by her 22 year old sister, F. Rensberg. Another sister (looks like "Dort", or maybe "Dora"?) age 20 is also living there. The live in HH 8/9 on Cedar Ave., San Francisco, ED 204.
In the 1900 census HH 178/260, ED 253 San Francisco is headed by William N. Mudgett age 42, born Dec. 1858. With him is wife Bertha born Feb 1869. They have been married 4 years. She is the mother of 3 children with 2 living. With are two step-sons: George born Aug. 1888; and Fred born Feb. 1892. The image is blurred, and George & Fred's name looks like Hammer. George & Fred's father, according to this record, was born in Pennsylvania.
Checked the 1880 for Hammers living in San Francisco who were born in PA, but didn't find anyone. There was a 22 year old George Hammer born in California. He was a boarder in HH 69/89 on Sacramento St.
