A biography/family history of Paul C. Gaethke is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 2, pages 478 & 479.
Paul was born, 1 Sep 1862, to Frederick and Emma (Stoerzer) Gaethke at Stavenhagen, Germany. Frederick was born in 1830 in Stavenhagen & died there in 1916. He was manager of the estate of Count von Plessen. Emma was born in Denmark and died in Stavenhagen in 1918. Children: Francis Pistorius, d. 1918; Paul C.; Ulrich, Tuebinzan, Germany; Gustav, d. 1915, Berlin.

Paul was educated at the University of Berlin & the University of Goettingen, and graduated from the University of Zurich, Switzerland, in 1884, with a degree in philosophy. He then located to Bathgate, ND, and was in the ice business there until 1900 when he came to Butte, MT, and established the Rocky Mountain Coal Company.

In 1891, at Pierz, MN, Paul married Miss Mary Schommer, daughter of Peter & Katherine Schommer, pioneer farmers of Rich Prairie, MN. Gaethke children: Frederick, b. 1893; Annie (Mrs. John B. McNulty of San Francisco), b. 1896, Pierz, MN; Frank, b. 1897; George, b. 1899.
