Wesley Raiha, 80
Surrounded by his wife of 58 years and loving family, Wesley John Raiha died Sunday morning, succumbing to his battle with cancer.
Wesley was born May 9, 1920, to John and Flora (Jarvi) Raiha in Wolverine, Mich. He came to Montana with his parents as a youth and worked of various jobs such as Western Union until he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in the Bitterroot before going into the Army. While in the army, he was stationed at Pearl Harbor during World War II and was wounded in the attack on Pearl Harbor. After the war, Wes came back to Butte where he spent more than 35 years working in the Butte mines, with the last 15 years spent as motorman in the Kelley Mine.
Wesley was preceded in death by his parents, two sis ters and five brothers.
Survivors include his wife and partner, Marie Raiha, 10 children, 30 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, with three more on the way. There was a special place in his heart for his first grandchild, Pamela Flink Geach, whom he called `` the good one.'' Surviving children and spous es include sons, Lloyd Raiha, John and Sandy Raiha, Ralph and Leanna Raiha, Marvin and Barbara Raiha; daugh ters, Linda Raiha, Carol and Ron Munoz, Ruth and Sheldon Burt, June and Leo Cook, Brenda and John Markin, and Kimberly and Romero Gonzalez.
We will always remember our dad and grandfather for his many wonderful qualities. He so loved his daily hikes and as he takes this last hike with his God, we miss him greatly.
Cremation has taken place. Private family services are pending.
Memorials: Butte Emergency Food Bank or the Skyline Sportsmen's Fishing Access Fund.
