Your information listed doesn't make sense. Galen couldn't poassibly be born in 1835 if their first child was born in Aug 1845.

Galen was born abt 1822, and he wasn't born in WV- West Virginia didn't exist as a state then.

Matilda filed for a widow's pension after the War, and then remarried and became Matilda Olds and was the children's guardian for the pension.

According to trees on, he was born about 1819 in Monroe Cty VA to James Snow Ballard and Anna Chambers. He married Matilda 10/11/1854.
Matilda married David Olds in 1867, and they moved to Carleton, NE.

Oregon City, OR Mar 24--David Olds, 89 years old, a resident of Oregon City for 23 years, died this morning at his home in Fall View. Mr. Olds was born in Elmore, NE where he lived until he came to Oregon City in 1890. He engaged in farming until declining health compelled his retirement. He is survived by his widow and the following children: Grant Olds, Gladstone; Charles Olds, Goldfield, NV; Mrs. Goza Brownson, Lincoln NE; and Mrs. Georgie Ketcham, Oregon City.

Mrs. Eliza Warthen Dead
Wife of C. H. Warthen of Mt. Pleasant, died in CA
B 3/1/1858 in Janesville OH and was the daughter of the late M/M David Olds of this city. Married at Carleton NE in 1876. In 1878 moved to Oregon,settling at Ashland, where they lived until 15 years ago, moving to Clackamas County. She was taken ill about 14 months ago and left Oregon City about 8 weeks ago, died in Pomona CA.

Mrs. M.E. Olds is Dead
Oregon City, Dec. 28--Mrs. M. E. Olds, a resident of Oregon City for more than a quarter of a century, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E. P. Ketchem, in Powell River, B.C., Wednesday, according to word received here yesterday. She had been ill for about a year.

She was born 80 years ago in Virginia and came to Oregon City in 1891. Of 11 children born to her, the following survive: Mrs. C. H. Warthen, of Oregon City; S. P. Ballard, of Gladstone; Mrs. Millie Hitt, of California; Mrs. Annie Partch, of Outlook, WA; Mrs. S. P. Bowman, Oregon City; C. H. Olds, of Goldfield, NV; Grant Olds, of Gladstone; Mrs. Cozie Brownson, of NE; Mrs. Ketchem, of Powell River; and George Ballard, of VA. Her husband, David Olds, died two years ago.

Samuel Preston Ballard
Kelso, WA Nov 12--Samuel Preston Ballard, 73, who had been living at the home of a niece, Mrs. Elbert Towne, at Carrolls, died at Portland last Friday. He came to Oregon from Nebraska in 1889. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Louis Marr, Portland, by 7 grandchildren and a niece.

There's a genealogy book on that says that Francis Elwin Brownson, b Potsdam NY 10/29/1861, married Cozetta Nebraska Olds, b 10/28/1871 at Carleton, Thayer, NE, daughter of David Olds. They married at Colby, KS 4/29/1888. (Carleton is very close to the Kansas state line; my father's family helped settle Carleton, and I have been there before.)
