Martin Stewart arrived Montana 1911. Cattle rancher
Hello,
I'm trying to research an ancestor called Martin Stewart, originally from the Isle of Skye, Scotland who arrived in Montana in 1911.He initially stayed with a friend called Ronald MacDonald whose address was recorded as Jordan, Miles city on his New York Immigration certificate.Ronald Macdonald left the Isle of Skye, Scotland in 1909.
I have had absolutely no luck finding a death certificate for either of them (either via genealogyarchives.com or vital check). However, I did find a Ronald Macdonald in a place called Ramsay, MT in the 1930 census and noticed that there was a 'Martin Street' in that town. I wonder if this is too much of a coincidence? :-)Can anyone tell me when official b,m & death records began for Montana, and where else I might be able to obtain information on him?
Details of what happened to him are very sketchy. Some family members maintain that he gave his farm to a friend and that he was murdered on his way back to Scotland, others say that he died of the flu during the 1918 epidemic. In any case, he made a small fortune cattle ranching before he died.
Would love to hear from you if you can suggest other avenues I might be able to pursue.
Many thanks!
