Thank you for your research and response. That pretty much sums up year by year where he lived. His father was Daniel K Donovan, Mother Ellen (Sullivan) Donovan, and they were married/lived in New York for some time. I wonder if there are any New York records available for him in the 1860 timeframe. His parents were married in New York in 1848. I am unsure of when they came to America from Ireland.

Also, I had access at one time to a Montana Census record that William Donovan was a miner (like Liz stated) and he was living/bording with another family at that time.

Are there any records of his children?
