Originally, Montana was comprised of 9 very large counties, including Deer Lodge County, and its County Seat was the city of Deer Lodge. After 1900, this large country was broken down into smaller counties, and the city of Deer Lodge became the County Seat of Powell County, and the city of Anaconda became the County Seat of the much smaller Deer Lodge County. After looking at the 1880 census data, the Jacques were living in the Deer Lodge Valley, and I believe that this was in what is now Powell County. To look for marriage or death records, I suggest that you contact the Powell County Courthouse, as they have many of the old Territorial Montana records. To obtain birth or death records, contact: Clerk & Recorder Powell County Courthouse 409 Missouri Avenue Deer Lodge, MT 59722 Phone: 406.846.3680 FAX: 406.846.3891 Another good site for research options in Powell County: http://powell.mtgenweb.org/ http://powellcountymontana.com/powell_county_history.html The above site gives a very good history of the Deer Lodge Valley where the Jacques family was residing in 1880. To research the birth and death records in Anaconda, go to the following website (also, you can find the address and phone number of the cemetery supervisor and phone or write to see if Anthony or Susan are buried in an Anaconda cemetery): http://deerlodge.mtgenweb.org/page1-enterdeerlodge.htm ---------- 1909 Anaconda City Directory (Polk): BEAUDET BLOCK, 621 E.
