Warrell Charles "Blue" Brockway of Superior, Montana, died peacefully on Thursday, May 28, 2009, his battle with multiple sclerosis over and won. Blue was born April 10, 1927 in Fairview, Mt., son of the late Charles Raymond and Mabel Agnes Dore Brockway. Blue's mother, Mabel was advised to move to a "greener" area as the brightness of eastern Montana affected her vision, so in 1937 the family moved to western Montana. Nicknamed "blue eyes" as a boy, the nickname stuck and he was known as "Blue" most of his life. Blue attended school in Superior, graduated in 1945 and entered into the US Navy the same week. He served on the USS Napa. Blue's brother, Duane was in the Coast Guard, and father Charles enlisted in the Marines. They served in WWII together and all came home...together. They were one of the few families in the U. S. during WWII to have all of the male family members enlisted at one time. During his time in the Navy, he was corresponding with a pretty girl at home in Superior. On June 18, 1948, he married that pretty girl, the love of his life, Helen Margaret James. His father, Charles, was the Justice of the Peace and he performed the marriage ceremony. They have made their home in Superior and then the old A. P. Johnston Ranch which they renovated over the years. Blue worked at Diamond International until M. S. affected his health. In 1968 Blue and Helen traveled to Mayo Clinic to get answers to the mysterious health problems that were plaguing him. He was diagnosed at the age of 40 with multiple sclerosis by a mylogram---state of the art medicine at that time. The newest treatment recommended by the Mayo doctors was that he should receive monthly spinal B12 shots from that time on. Blue and Helen fought MS for the rest of their lives, enjoying their family, gardening, farming and ranching. Blue was active in the Saddle Club, ASCS (Soil Conservation), Weed Board, Rural Fird board and spent many years on the Mineral County Fair Board. Blue enjoyed hunting elk, especially in the north fork of Fish Creek, and being around livestock. Blue is survived by his wife, Helen of Superior, MT and his four children: Roger Brockway, Janet (David) Allen of Billings, MT, Dian (William) Ambrose of Missoula,MT, and Alan (Jane) Brockway, of Superior, MT. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Alexander, Emily, Rachele, Matthew, Patrick, and Rachel. Notify Administrator about this message?
