Buck family in Montana
Hello,
Just browsing when I ran across some posts on Buck's, and their branch coming to Bitter Root Valley, Stevensville, Montana in 1880.
I own the house that was built abt 1875 by Frederick Marshall Buck. Yes, there are a lot of Buck's buried in Stevensville. BUT, there were two branches of Buck's unrelated to one another.
The Buck line I'm speaking of is Fred Buck was born 1841, died 1890. He, his brothers and parents removed to Montana, the males working in the Montana Mines, then moving to Florence in the Bitter Root Valley for cattle ranching, which at the time was Missoula County. They moved into Stevensville establishing a rather large merchantile business, prior to 1875.
The earliest date I have documented for Fred being in Montana is in the 1860's. He also served in the Civil War.
Just to clarify, not all Buck's in Stevensville were related to one another.
