The only David Gagne I can find was born about 1859-1861 in Minnesota.

1920 U.S. Federal Census; Montana; Dawson County; School District #: 9; Roll #: T625_968; Page: 6B; Enumeration District: 76; Image: 1014; Enumerated on 09 Feb 1920:

GAGNE, David F.; head of household; male; white; 59 years of age; married; born in Minnesota; both parents born in Canada; occupation: farmer--general farming.
GAGNE, Emile; wife; female; white; 55 years of age; married; born in Minnesota; father born in France; mother born in South Dakota; occupation: none listed.

MONTANA DEATH INDEX 1907-1953:

GAGNE, David F.
Died: 08 Nov 1927 at 66 years of age
Index #: Gld 563 ("Gld" indicates the city of Glendive in Dawson County).

If you think that this David Gagne is worth pursuing, try this Dawson County MTGenWeb link, as it offers many research options:

Good luck!
