Hi Charlene, I just recently got back "into" my genealogy research and saw your inquriry posted. I work for the Montana Supreme Court Law Library, which conveniently is across one street from the Montana Historical Society Library, and across another street from the LDS library (very convenient, huh?!). I spend my lunch hours doing my own historical and genealogical research and am now branching out into doing other folks' too. Has anyone responded to you on this? I can begin by checking the Helena City Directories and the local cemetary records for the Rand family. I'll also try to find an article in the local newspaper too. I was wondering why you mentioned that in the Lewis and Clark records John T. is referred to as "N.B."? As I was looking at the Helena City Directory for 1886-87 (our oldest to my knowledge), he is listed this way: "Ran, NB milkman res 511 Breckenridge". Then in the next directory it said: "Rand, John T. milkman res 411 Breckenridge." What does NB stand for? I only had time today to check those 2 volumes as I'm finishing up research for someone else, but I plan on working on yours beginning, hopefully, tomorrow. Just to let you know ahead of time, I'm a terribly compulsive researcher, so if I "get lucky" I may find more info than you want! I'll keep you posted on my progress. Would you also let me know if there are others working on this, so I don't "recreate the wheel" so to speak? I'd appreciate that. Also, please email me at: rkgibson@hotmail.com with the subject line "Rand family" since I check that more frequently and I'll know it's from you! Rita :) Notify Administrator about this message?
