D. C. Mather Champion piper/dancer
I am researching the life of David Charles Mather (1868-1943), London native and graduate of the Royal Caledonian Asylum there, who became one of the greatest professional Scottish Highland bagpipers, dancers and athletes of the 1890s and came to Montana in 1900 or 1901. He lived in Butte, Anaconda and Norris, dividing his time between working for the Anaconda Copper Co. and prospecting and mining with several partners. His legacy includes several pupils in the UK and Pacific Northwest who made their marks in piping and dancing, several excellent tunes still popular and a bushel of medals, of which the 31 best now reside in the Inverness Museum
Any information greatly appreciated
